Limited Editions Sold to Benefit the Israel Museum, Jerusalem

Commissioned by the Israel Museum, this series of signed limited edition artworks by internationally known contemporary artists are sold for the benefit of the Museum, helping it maintain its prestigious status as one of the world’s leading encyclopedic museums.

The exclusive series began in 2005, at the time of the museum’s 40th anniversary when International Council Co-Chair Marion Naggar looked for a way to honor and support the museum while strengthening its connections with artists.

The first artist to generously agree to participate was Damien Hirst followed by Yinka Shonibare, Ron Arad, Liza Lou, William Kentridge, Arik Lévy and Jeff Koons, all of whom are represented in the museum’s collection. Most recently, Ai Weiwei submitted a work to the series in celebration of his acclaimed 2017 exhibition at the museum.

Christie’s is proud to support the Israel Museum by promoting the sale of remaining editions in the series and all proceeds will benefit the museum’s work. Olafur Eliasson

Your reversed Berlin sphere

In honor of the Museum’s 50th Anniversary, Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson created a limited-edition series of 40 artworks. Entitled “Your reversed Berlin sphere”, the work – a combination of color-effect filter glass, glass, and wood frame – is a photographic landscape of the city of Berlin as seen from the artist’s studio, within which a smaller, spherical version of the same view is inverted. The work produces a transformative experience for the viewer, who, by observing the work from different angles, can perceive variations in color and transparency. The work also emulates a mirror that simultaneously allows the observer to view his or her reflection as well as the image beneath the glass.
